Hello there,


My name is Niela Santos and I studied theatre at Macunaíma - reputed school of drama in São Paulo who follows Stanislavski methodology. During the program, I took part in 6 different plays and performed three leading roles. This experience enabled me to achieve, six months previously the end of my course, my Actress Professional Registration, awarded by the Ministry of Labour of Brazil. CIRANDA DOS QUATRO

MAY, 2018

Inspired by the Pandora’s Box Myth, this performance presents one chest from which emerge the four essential elements (earth, air, fire and water) instead of ills for mankind, as in the traditional myth. From the chest the characters take all the items used during the performance, including their costumes and handcrafted musical instruments, and transform themselves in their element in front of the audience while reciting texts in Portuguese and singing and dancing cirandas songs (a traditional Brazilian type of music/dance).

LADY OF THE DROWNED (SENHORA DOS AFOGADOS)

"The sea, always him. He calls the women of this house, then it will be the men's turn and the house itself. The sea!"

The past and present of the Drummond family interconnected by the sea. Ambitions, desires, sanity, and madness are elements of this mythical tragedy of Nelson Rodrigues, considered the most poetic among his works.

LAY MASS (MISSA LEIGA)

About the capacity of incomprehension of humanity, the work brings a reflection on the destiny of the world and the human being, promoting in the stage a great lay pray. Assembly follows traditional parts of the Mass of the Roman Catholic Church and, yet it is a lay mass since different conductors (coryphaei) and point of views have a voice in the stage. Human being essential issues are debated and the choir question our understanding of life, death, God, the universe and our own responsibility in face of the future and our self-destructiveness.

THE STORY OF THE PANDA BEARS TOLD BY A SAXOPHONIST WHO HAS A GIRLFRIEND IN FRANKFURT

DECEMBER, 2016

A young man wakes up with a girl in his bed whose name he does not remember. Nor does he remember where and how they met, their journey to his squalid apartment or what they did after they got there. The promises to return that night. He promises to wait for her.

Bound by a promise and a bottle of wine they travel through a
dream like caged lightening. Together they discover sometimes, all you need to
approach perfection is a saxophone and a broken alarm clock.

A JOURNEY TO MEDEA (UMA JORNADA PARA MEDEIA)

JUNE, 2016

In this adaptation of Water Drop (Chico Buarque), Medea (Euripede) and Despoiled Shore Medea Material Landscape with Argonauts (Heiner Müller) the veils that separate the dimensions tear and arise in infinite possibilities of space-time: Medea. The woman charged with love who leaves her homeland to follow her beloved who promised her eternal love; instead she and her children find themselves abandoned and persecuted. When the last drop of water causes Medea to overflow all her suffering, only hatred and vengeance will remain as instruments of her release.

A CAVERNA (THE CAVE), by Niela Santos–  Two men meet inside a locked room. On the table, a stopwatch and a note: in the space of a few minutes one must convince the other that he is right about a controversial subject whose opinions differ. There is only one right answer. If they make mistakes, or if they hold different convictions, when the stopwatch zeroes both will be dead.
PLAYED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MARCH AND APRIL OF 2018,  CLUB NOIR, SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL. DIRECTED BY ROBERTO ALVIM AND JULIANA GALDINO.
